Roulette is one of the easiest games to play and understand in the casino. As usual the easier a game is to understand the greater the house edge, and roulette is no exception. But playing Roulette is fun and it is even more fun if you play with a good system.

It is not possible to beat the Roulette with any mathematical- or betting system. Lots of people will tell you it is, but the fact is that all Roulette systems are scams. But even it systems don’t makes you a winner at roulette it can actually be more fun to play roulette if you use a system, so here is some classic roulette systems.

Martingale (betting system)

The Martingale Betting System is the oldest and most common betting in the world, in this system bets are doubled progressively. The Martingale probably dates back to the invention of the Roulette wheel, but every day of the week some gambler somewhere reinvents it, or some variation of it, and believes he has something new. I know lots of people who actually believes this system will make them a winner in the long run. Originally, the martingale referred to a class of betting strategies popular in 18th century France. The simplest of these strategies was designed for a game in which the gambler wins his stake if a coin comes up heads and loses it if the coin comes up tails. The strategy had the gambler double his bet after every loss, so that the first win would recover all previous losses plus win a profit equal to the original stake. Since a gambler with infinite wealth will with probability 1 eventually flip heads, the Martingale betting strategy was seen as a sure thing by those who practiced it. Unfortunately, none of these practitioners in fact possessed infinite wealth, and the exponential growth of the bets would eventually bankrupt those foolish enough to use the Martingale. Moreover, it is impossible to use in modern casinos, due to the betting limits.
Suppose that someone applies the martingale betting system at an European roulette table, with 1 zero; on average, a bet on either red or black will win 18 times out of 37. If the player's initial bankroll is $630 and the betting unit is $10, he can afford 5 losing bets in a row ($10, $20, $40,$80 and $160) and still win if the 6th bet wins. If any of these 6 bets wins he wins $10 and wins back any past losses. The chance of losing 6 bets in a row (and therefore losing the complete $630) is (19/37)^6 = 1.83%. The remaining 98.17% of the time, the player will win $10.
 

The D'Alembert System

The D'Alembert roulette system is also known as "The Pyramid", because of the shape of its fluctuating wagering structure. This roulette system was designed for use on simple chances bets like red or black where you alternate with two events but can be used on any even chance bet. The scope for this progression is to reach a balance between two chances.
D'Alembert roulette system gives you two bonuses, as first you do not increase your bets as rapidly which gives you the chance to stop a session and accept a small to medium lost. Secondly, you can find that your bankroll is positive before a session is complete, this gives you the option to cut short a session with a small win.

1. Start by writing on a piece of paper ten 1s in a row (1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1). Each number will represent a betting unit. When all numbers have been crossed off the paper you will have won 10 units.
2. For each bet wager the sum of the number on the left plus the number on the right, unless there is only one number left in which case you bet that number.
3. If you win cross off both numbers.
4. If you lose place the sum at the end on the right.
5. If the bankroll you decided to risk at the beginning is not enough to bet the sum of the left and right numbers then:
A. If your bankroll can cover the number on the left then wager that. If you win then cross off the left number. If you lose then add to the left number what you lost.
B. If your bankroll can not cover the number on the left then bet whatever is left of your bankroll. If you win then deduct from the number on the left what you won. If you lose then your bankroll is consumed and you must leave the table.
6. Keep repeating these steps until you either cross off all numbers or exhaust the bankroll you decided initially to risk.

 

Wheel Tracking
Some people and books claim that roulette wheels often are biased, with a heavy side and a light side. Gravity causes the numbers in the heavy side to hit more often. This I believe used to be true many years ago when the quality of the equipment was poor. However modern roulette wheels are much better and very rigorously tested. Only in a casino using a very dated wheel may you be able to find a biased one by testing many thousands of spins. If you find a biased weel ité easy to take advantage of it. You just play the numbers that are overrepresented in the statistics.
In theory this could work online too. There is no perfect random number generators. It might be possible to find some kind of patterns in the numbers coming up in a online casino and taking advantage of it.
