How to play Craps

Craps is a fast and exciting casino game played at a craps table using two dices. If you play only the best bets craps has a very low house edge.

Craps can look like a very complicated game but it’s actually an easy game to learn.
There are about 40 different bets that can be made on a craps table but most of them have really bad odds and should be avoided. To get started playing craps, all you need to understand is the basic passline bet.

The pass line bet is the fundamental bet that most players make. The pass line bet is an even money bet with a house edge of only 1.4%, which is better than most other casino games, and gives the player a reasonable chance to win.
The shooter's first roll of the dice is called the "come out roll."
If you bet on the pass line and the come out roll comes 7 or 11, you win. A total of 2, 3, or 12 means you loose.
Any other number establishes a point. The shooter's goal now is to roll this number again before rolling a 7. If he does hit the point before rolling a 7, then you win. But if he rolls a 7 before rolling the point, then you lose

If a point is rolled you will also have the possibility to make another bet, usually maximum 2-3 times the initial pass line bet, that the point will be rolled before a 7. This bet is called The odds and is paid as follows: If the point is a 6 or 8 the odds pay 6-5, if the point is a 5 or 9 the odds pay 3-2, and if the point is a 4 or 10 the odds pay 2-1. The Odds bet is a bet with a house edge of zero, so this is a bet you should take.

Don't Pass Line is almost the opposite of a Pass Line bet. Don't Pass bets win if the come out roll is 2 or 3, and lose if the come out roll is 7 or 11. If the come out roll is 12, the bet becomes a push and the player gets his money back. Any other number establishes a point. Don't Pass bets win if the shooter hits a 7 before the point, and lose if the point hits first.

The Come and Don’t Come Bets are the same as pass and don’t pass with the exception that you don’t have to wait for a come out roll, to make the bet.

There are lots of other possible bets in craps called Place Bets, Field Bets, Big Six Bets, Big Eight Bets and Proposition Bets. The house edges for these bets vary but are for most of them very high. You can for example bet on a 2 next roll. This bet is paid 30:1, but it has a house edge of 14%.

If you are new to the game of craps you should probably stick to the pass line bet and when a point is rolled make the maximum bet on the odds. If you use this strategy the house edge will be very low, something like 0.5%, depending on how much you are allowed to bet on the odds. If you only bet on the pass line with no odds bet the house edge is 1.4%.
